Exp team member contributes to two books

Petr Vegh, Ph.D., P.Eng., one of exp's Structural Engineering team members and Head of the Structural Group in the Brampton - Building Engineering Team, has contributed to two internationally distributed books! Petr is known as one of the leaders in environmentally compatible structures (ECS). The textbook called Concept of The Theory of Environmentally Compatible Structures and Structural Materials was co-authored andedited by Petr along with his father, Prof. Ludevit Vegh, DrSc. who is also internationally recognized as a leader in ECS. During the writing, Petr and his father communicated with and managed an international team of seventeen other authors from five countries, who also contributed to the book. This book will be distributed mainly to universities around the world, helping further the education of the next generation of engineers.

The second book, Fifty Years of Progress for Shell and Spatial Structures was inspired by the 50th Anniversary Jubilee of the International Association for Shell and Spatial Structures (IASS). Petr and his father, at the requestof IASS, joined an international team of authors and contributed a section entitled Toward Environmental Compatibility In Engineering and Architecture. The book has been distributed to members of the IASS and the International Associate for Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE) and is also on sale to the general public.

Yorkville Dam Wins Honor Award

2011/12

The American Council of Engineering Companies of Illinois (ACEC-IL) gave an Honor award to Teng, part of the exp family of companies, for their work on the rehabilitation of the Glen D Palmer Dam project in Yorkville, IL. Teng provided planning, design and analysis services. The Honor Award is the highest category of award the ACEC-IL gives out as part of their 2012 Engineering Excellence Awards Competition. The project will compete for the ACEC-IL's ultimate award, the Eminent Conceptor, and is also eligible to enter ACEC's National Competition.

Green Project Recognized at WAF

2011/12

A teaching plant designed by exp was a finalist in the Production, Energy and Recycling category at the World Architecture Festival in Barcelona, Spain. Used by Waste Management (WM) and the Des Chênes School Board in Drummondville, QC, the building uses green energy for heat by recovering biogases from a nearby landfill site. Currently under review for LEED® Silver certification, the project is helping to reduce greenhouse gases and supports sustainability in our communities.

FIS Maitland Project Wins Award

2011/12

The U.S. Green Building Council Central Florida Chapter named the FIS building at Maitland Summit the Project of the Year in the Commercial Interior category. The building, located in Maitland, FL, has already achieved Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design® for Commercial Interiors (LEED®-CI) Gold Certification. Our team at exp provided LEED® consulting, energy modelling and commissioning for the project.

Ernst & Young recognizes exp's President and CEO

Progress Media ranked exp's Atlantic Canada team 46th on the 2011 Top 101 Companies list. The annual list ranks companies in the Atlantic provinces based on revenue, and the exp team based in Fredericton, N.B. moves up one position from last year's standing.

Wastewater Project in Atlantic Canada Wins Award

The Atlantic Canada Water and Wastewater Association (ACWWA) gave the Crapaud Wastewater Lagoon Upgrades the 2011 Project of the Year Award in the Small Communities category. The award recognizes projects in Atlantic Canada that demonstrate innovation and state-of-the-art technology in water and wastewater projects. The team at exp provided the conceptual planning, design, and construction management services for the upgrades to the lagoon, located in Crapaud, PEI. The upgrades make the lagoon compliant with current environmental standards and provide the community with 25 years of capacity for growth.

John Street Roundhouse in Toronto Receives Award

2011/10

The John Street Roundhouse in Toronto received an Award of Excellence from Heritage Toronto for the preservation of character defined elements and adaptive re-use as a public space. Formerly the Canadian Pacific Railway Roundhouse, the building is now a multi-use facility that houses retail outlets and a train museum. The team at exp provided structural design expertise on the project.

Dental College Project Wins ENR Award

2011/09

ENR Southeast named Georgia Health Sciences University, College of Dental Medicine in Augusta, GA as the winner of the 2011 Best Project Awards in the Best Higher Education/Research Project category. With over 300 dental chairs and a Class C Operating Room, the new facility is one of the largest dental schools in The United States. The team at exp was responsible for the mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP), fire protection and AV/Telecom/Data for the concept, planning, design and construction phases.

Seminole State Project Up for LEED® Certification

2011/09

The third floor of building L on Seminole State College's Sanford/Lake Mary Campus in Lake Mary, FL, has been submitted for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) certification by the design team at exp. With 21 smart classrooms, a conference room and student gathering spaces, the project features a highly reflective roof, high-performance, insulated glass curtain walls to produce natural light and a host of other environmentally friendly features. Exp Ranks 4th in MEP Giants 2011 List

Consulting-Specifying Engineer, a publication written by consulting engineers for mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) engineers, analyzed profiles from over 100 engineering firms and placed exp 4th on the MEP Giants 2011 list. Based on design revenue, the annual list features the top MEP engineering firms in North America.

Exp Among Top ENR Design Firms

According to Engineering News-Record, exp moved up 12 spots to rank number 64 among the Top 150 Global Design Firms and moved up 15 spots to rank number 55 among the Top 200 International Design Firms. The Top 150 Global Design Firm list ranks the largest world design firms, based on total design-specific revenue regardless of where the projects were located, while the Top 200 International Design Firm list ranks firms based on design-specific export revenue generated from projects outside each firm's respective home country.

Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre Project Wins

2011/07

Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, of which exp was the Structural Engineer of Record and part of a larger design team which included partners such as Vanbots and HOK Architects, won a Best of the Best award from the Toronto Construction Association (TCA) in the large project category. The awards recognize outstanding contributions from prime contractors and project teams who have completed extraordinary projects and demonstrated outstanding leadership and business practices. Innovative HCB Bridge Design Attracting Attention

The Knickerbocker Bridge in Boothbay, Maine, the largest composite bridge in the world, is drawing the attention of engineers and transportation officials from across North America for its use of hybrid composite beams (HCB). The brainchild of John Hillman, Senior Associate at Teng & Associates, Inc., which is part of the exp family of companies, the lightweight design of HCB bridges cuts down on shipping costs and is expected to last at least 100 years. Exp Raises $120,000 for Charities

2011/06

Exp achieved a new company record by raising $120,000 in their 18th Annual Charity Golf Tournament, held on June 2nd, 2011. A donation of $50,000 was made to the SickKids Foundation and a total donation of $50,000, with a $20,000 donation coming from exp, was made to Peel Memorial Hospital. The remaining money is being donated to local charities.

Chief Human Resources Officer appointment

Mr. Schwartz previously served as Corporate Executive Vice President, Human Resources for World Color Press Incorporated. Teng joins Trow Global

U.S.-based firm Teng & Associates Inc. (Teng) has joined the Trow Global group of companies. Teng provides design, engineering and program management services for major infrastructure projects more than doubling Trow Global's U.S. presence. Teng's primary focus will continue to be the delivery of full-service architectural and engineering design services for buildings, transportation and mission-critical facilities, as well as integrated design/build and program management services for some of the fastest-growing business segments in the U.S.

Trow Global Raises over $85,000 for Charities

Trow Global hosted its 17th Annual Charity Golf Tournament on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at Eagles Nest Golf Club in Maple, ON. With the help and generosity of employees, clients and suppliers, a total of $86,065 was raised for various charities - a best-ever for the annual tournament. A donation of $64,000 was made to SickKids Foundation which will be used towards the redevelopment of state-of-the-art operating suites. Remaining monies raised are being donated to local Brampton charities. Since the beginning of the tournament 17 years ago, Trow Global has raised in excess of $250,000 for SickKids Foundation and the Company has now reached 'Benefactor' status with the Foundation. Attending this year's tournament was the Company's founder, Bill Trow and his son, Philip, as well as representatives from The Hospital for Sick Children - Dr. Kellie Leitch and Ms. Nicole Wolff who gratefully accepted the donation from Lloyd Gonsalves, Vice President, Trow Associates and organizer of the event.

Teknika HBA named 2010 Best Employer

Wilfrid Morin Wins Prestigious Award

Wilfrid Morin, Chief Operating Officer of the firm, has received the 2010 Award of Excellence from the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ - Quebec's corporation of professional engineers). Mr. Morin accepted the award, the highest distinction given by the Corporation to one of its members, during a ceremony on June 10th held in Gatineau, Qc.

Since 1991, this annual award has recognized the professional excellence of a Quebec engineer. In addition to their significant expertise and contribution to society, engineers who are models for the profession are also recognized for their involvement in professional organizations and their community.

Wilfrid Morin appointed COO

Mr. Wilfrid Morin has been promoted to the newly-created role of Chief Operating Officer of Trow Global. Mr. Morin maintains his role as Senior Vice President, Human Resources and Quality Management. He will oversee all operations for Trow Global (Canadian, US and International) and will be primarily responsible for ensuring the timely and efficient integration of the operating units into the Trow Global family of companies. He will work directly with Vlad Stritesky, President and CEO.

Anthony Brown joins Trow Global

Mr. Anthony Brown has been appointed to the role of Senior Vice President, Business Development. Mr. Brown joins Trow Global from WorleyParsons Limited (WOR.AX), where he served as Senior Vice President. As part of Trow Global's executive team, Mr. Brown will be responsible for leading business development activities across the entire company. Mr. Brown reports directly to Mr. Stritesky. Prior to WorleyParsons, Mr. Brown spent six years at Komex Environmental in increasingly responsible roles, culminating in Chief Executive Officer. WorleyParsons acquired Komex in January 2006.

Bill Trow wins CGS Award

Trow Global's founder, Mr. William A. (Bill) Trow, has been honoured by the Canadian Geotechnical Society (CGS) with its CGS-Southern Ontario Section (SOS) Award. The award recognizes the recipient's outstanding contributions to the growth of the CGS-SOS, and to the geotechnical and geo-environmental engineering profession in the southern Ontario area through service to research, design, development or construction. The award was presented to Mr. Trow by Mr. Stan Gonsalves, Executive Vice President of Trow Global and President of Trow International Inc., at the Annual CGS-SOS Toronto Group Annual Dinner on May 12, 2010. Mr. Trow's son, Philip, was also in attendance.

Greg Henderson Appointed CFO

Trow Global is pleased to announce that Mr. Greg Henderson has been appointed to the role of Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Henderson joins Trow Global from AGF Management Limited (AGF.B-T), where he served as Chief Financial Officer since September 2004. Mr. Henderson will be responsible for leading the finance, accounting and information services teams in achieving the strategic growth objectives of the Trow Global organization. Prior to AGF, Mr. Henderson spent 11 years at Rogers Communications Inc. in increasingly responsible roles, including the Vice President and Group Controller of Rogers Communications Incorporated, and was also formerly the Vice President and Controller of Rogers Wireless (Cantel), both publicly listed companies on the NYSE and TSX. Most recently, Mr. Henderson held the position of Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Toronto-based AGF Management Limited, where he was responsible for the finance, regulatory reporting, information technology, and the acquisition and divestiture functions for the AGF group of companies. Each company experienced tremendous growth under his leadership.

Sam Iapalucci Appointed to Board of Directors

Trow Global is pleased to announce that Samuel H. Iapalucci has been appointed to its Board of Directors. Concurrent with his appointment, Mr. Iapalucci has accepted the role of Audit Committee Chairman for Trow Global.

Mr. Iapalucci is the former Executive Vice President, Secretary and Chief Financial Officer of CH2M Hill, a full-service engineering, consulting, construction, and operations firm. In addition, he brings 20 years of collective experience across the boards of four different companies and has served on Audit, Finance, Ownership, and Compensation Committees. During his tenure as CH2M Hill's Chief Financial Officer from 1994 to 2008, CH2M Hill grew its revenues nine-fold to $5.6 billion. Its stock price grew at a 20% compounded growth rate over the same period. Mr. Iapalucci was promoted from Senior Vice President to Executive Vice President in 2000 and served as Acting Chief Executive Officer of CH2M Hill from December 2004 to August 2005. Mr. Iapalucci retired from CH2M Hill in April, 2008.

Robert Sheh - Trow Global's New Chairman of the Board

Robert B. Sheh has over 30 years of experience in the consulting, engineering, construction, operations and maintenance industries. He is also an accomplished leader in global energy and infrastructure development and has extensive international experience. He has served in top executive roles at a number of large corporations, including President of Parsons, President and CEO of International Technology Corporation, Chairman and CEO of Air and Water Technologies Corporation and President of CH2M Hill International. Mr. Sheh is the founder and currently Managing Partner of Alta Group LLC, a global advisory firm that specializes in improving corporate financial and operational performance, transitions, and strategic planning. Mr. Sheh joined Trow Global's Board of Directors in July of 2009, and replaces Phil Trahanas, interim Chairman.

With a team of nearly 40 environmental and scientific experts, Barenco provides comprehensive remediation services, environmental assessments and research and development to a client base of over 350 corporations and government agencies. Some of their client sectors include Petroleum Marketing & Distribution, Chemical Production, Metal Product Manufacturing, Transportation Services and Land Development.

Trow Global donates nearly $60,000 for Haiti Relief

Following the disastrous earthquake in Haiti, the global community has come together to help the devastated nation in its time of greatest need. Trow Global quickly coordinated efforts so that more than 3,000 employees could help. Through a combination of employee donations and corporate contributions, we raised $58,570 for the Canadian Red Cross Haiti Earthquake Relief. When factoring in the promised federal government matching for individual contributions, that number grows to almost $100,000! We're proud to be a small part of the world-wide outpouring of care for the troubled Haitian people.

$23 million contract renewal in Algeria

Les Laboratoires Shermont Inc., a Trow Global company, has renewed its external quality control contract with COJAAL, a Japanese consortium, for the construction of the eastern portion of the Trans-Algerian Highway between Bordj Bou Arreridj and the Tunisian border, which represents over 400 km of roadway and engineering structures. The contract, which is valued at $23 million, will span two years. This is the largest contract ever obtained by the firm.

Trow and Advanced Environmental Corp. Complete Merger

Trow Global (Trow) has announced an agreement to merge with Advanced Environmental Corp. (AEC), an environmental, materials and occupational hygiene engineering firm in London Ontario.

The primary focus of AEC is the provision of environmental and hazardous materials engineering services to the education, healthcare and industrial sectors within Trow. AEC was founded in 2001 and has provided hazardous materials and hygiene consulting services to hospitals, school boards, universities, federal and provincial services and a wide variety of industrial clients throughout southwestern Ontario.

Trow and Richardson Foster Complete Merger

Trow Global (Trow), announced an agreement to merge with Richardson Foster Ltd., (RFL) a civil engineering consulting firm headquarted in Barrie, Ontario.

Richardson Foster Ltd. was an amalgamation of Richardson Engineering Ltd. (founded in 1999) and J. Foster Engineering Ltd. (founded in 1994) in June 2004. RFL specializes in land development, municipal infrastructure and water resource engineering.

RFL specializes in: pre-engineering studies for the land development industry for Secondary Plans and Draft plans of sudvivision, re-construction of urban and rural roads; subdivision and site plan design; stormwater, water and sanitary infrastructure ; topographic surveying; as well as project management and contract administration.

Trow Global (Trow) announced on September 25, 2008 an agreement to merge with Smylie & Crow Associates Inc. (S&C), a consulting mechanical and electrical engineering firm in London, Ontario.

Incorporated in 1962, S&C provides mechanical and electrical consulting engineering for building services in the commercial, institutional and light industrial sectors. A large component of their work includes infrastructure upgrades for schools, including many large and complex HVAC and Electrical upgrade projects.

The primary focus of S&C will remain the provision of mechanical and electrical engineering services for commercial and institutional clients such as school boards, healthcare, universities and office buildings, within Trow.

Trow and Teknika HBA Complete Merger

On June 12th, 2008, Trow Global announced that we will be merging with Quebec-based Teknika HBA. Our two companies provide complementary consulting and engineering services in Canada and internationally and our combination will offer even more fully integrated solutions for our clients. Teknika HBA will continue to offer value-added services to its clients under its current name within Trow. Our combined workforce will approach 2000 employees with a total of 60 offices in Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec, the United States and internationally.

Burnaby Wins CEBC Award of Merit

Trow's Burnaby office is pleased to announce they have won the CEBC (Consulting Engineers of British Columbia) Award of Merit. The team won the award in the "buildings" category for their work on the Kwantlen University College Trades and Technology Centre. The submission for the project was a joint submission with the project structural and geotechnical engineering firms.

The Consulting Engineers of British Columbia is a business organization that represents and provides assistance to consulting engineering firms, and member firms number nearly 100 across the province. Their annual awards represent technical excellence and recognize innovation in engineering that is simply a cut above the rest. The awards have grown more prestigious since the inception of the program 17 years ago, thus increasing the profile of all winning firms.

The Kwantlen University College Trades and Technology Centre is a 17,200 m2 campus consisting of three major buildings with classrooms, workshops and academic facilities. The indoor "covered street" provides visual and physical access to every floor within the facility and ensures optimum natural light and ventilation.

Trow Sponsors Olympic Athlete Brian Price

Trow is proud to announce that we are the official corporate sponsor for Olympic hopefully Coxswain on the Men's Heavyweight 8 Rowing Team Brian Price. Price won gold at the 2002, 2005 and 2007 World Rowing Championships, for Canada's men's eight rowing team, and won a bronze medal in 2003 in the coxed pair rowing event. The Belleville Ontario native is a former employee of Trow Ottawa, and graduated with a Civil Engineering Technology diploma from Seneca College.

Price has faced many obstacles in life. A cancer survivor who struggled against leukemia from ages 7 to 11, Brian's resolve embodies the kind of attitude that is necessary for success. Motivating others to rise above their adversities, Brian speaks to young people inspiring them to pursue their dreams and face their obstacles with perseverance and will power.

WJ Bowman joins the Trow Group of Companies

Established in 1974, W.J. Bowman Ltd. has been providing professional land surveying services from its Dryden and Fort Frances offices to private, Municipal, Government, & First Nation, industrial and mining clients throughout Northwestern Ontario for the past 25 years. Dave McManus Engineering (DME) Joins Trow

As of April 2007, Dave McManus Engineering Ltd. (DME) in Nepean, Ontario joined Trow working closely with our Ottawa office. Established in 1991, DME's service offerings focus on rural/urban development and municipal infrastructure. With some 40 staff members DME offers a diverse team of engineering professionals and technical staff providing planning, municipal, land development, transportation, and environmental services. The DME team will continue to service clients from their Nepean location working closely with our Ottawa office which is headed up by Dan McNicoll.

ABH Joins the Trow Team

Trow rounded out its fiscal year with ABH Experts-Conseils Inc. (ABH) joining the Trow team. ABH is a Montreal-based engineering firm with a focus on civil, structural, mechanical and electrical engineering as well as project management. The 11 engineers and technicians joined the staff in the LBCD Montreal office bringing the staff to 32 employees in that location. The Montreal office is managed by Pierre Beauchamp, assisted by Hai Nguyen the Montreal Engineering Director and Benoit Auclair as the Development Director.

LBCD wins Grands Prix du Génie-Conseil Québécois

LBCD was one of 12 award-winners to receive a Léonard, a prize named after Léonard De Vinci, at the 2007 Grands Prix du génie-conseil québécois on March 29, 2007 at the Montreal Centre des sciences.

Organized by the Association des Ingénieurs-Conseils du Québec (AICQ) along with its partners, the award celebrates contributions to the profession. An independent jury comprised of individuals chosen for their experience in the public and private sectors, as well as for their technical knowledge, reviewed 37 projects, developed in Canada and abroad by firms of all sizes established in Québec.

LBCD won the award in the category of City Infrastructure for the Drinking Water filtration plant in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Québec.

Carruthers & Wallace is pleased to announce that they have been awarded the 2006 Govenor General's Medal in Architecture for their work as Structural Consultant and Engineer on Record for The Schulich School of Business in Toronto.

The Schulich School of Business is a world class business education facility, located at the gateway to the York University campus.

The technically advanced and highly sophisticated design of this 260,000 sq.ft. complex includes lecture halls, a two storey library, offices and common areas.

Critical structural engineering issues included: design for a long-span structure in theatre lecture areas, complete building geometry, co-ordination of complex building systems including hard-wired systems, acoustical issues and attention to exposed structural elements.

Trow Awarded Canada's Best Managed

Trow is proud to be honoured with a Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies award for the year 2006. After a detailed application process, Trow was named one of the Best Managed companies in a special announcement made in the National Post on February 7, 2007.

Established in 1993, the Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies is a national awards program recognizing Canadian companies that have implemented world-class business practices and created value in innovated ways. Trow, along with the other award recipients, will be honoured for their tremendous achievement in a Best Managed Gala on February 12, 2007.

Weslake Inc. and Trow team up

Weslake Inc. became the most recent firm to become part of the Trow team. With offices in Hamilton and Brantford, Westlake Inc. provides environmental and municipal engineering, planning design, economics and construction management for both public and private sector clients. As part of the Trow team, Weslake will use the latest in Storm Water Management and Computer Modeling to ensure all project requirements are achieved with the highest efficiency.

Northern Ontario based SRQ joins Trow Associates Inc.

Sutcliffe Rody Quesnell Inc. (SRQ) joined the Trow Group of Companies in late 2006. Based throughout Northern Ontario, SRQ was formed in 2000 from the merger of two long standing well-known Northern Ontario firms: H. Sutcliffe Ltd. and Rody and Quesnel Surveying Inc. SRQ provides a full range of survey services to a variety of corporate, municipal and senior government clients including legal surveys for residences, severances and subdivisions, pre-engineering surveys, high accuracy GPS surveys and project surveying for new industrial developments. SRQ has locations in Ontario in New Liskeard, Timmins, Cochrane, North Bay and Kenora.

Trow raises $30,000 for Hospital for Sick Children

Recently, Trow and its clients came together to celebrate at Trow's 13th Annual Invitational Golf Tournament. The day was filled with friendly competition and most importantly, support for the Hospital for Sick Children. Thanks to the tremendous generosity of our clients and suppliers, Trow raised over $30,000 which will directly benefit The Hospital for Sick Children.

Keystone Pipeline Project awarded to Trow

Trow was recently awarded Phase 1 and 2 development activities for the Keystone Pipeline Project. Keystone is a crude oil pipeline designed to transport up to 591,000 barrels per day of Oil Sands crude from Hardisty Alberta to refineries in Wood River, Illinois and Cushing, Oklahoma.

Trow part of Sea-to-Sky Highway for 2010 Olympics

Trow, as part of the S2S Transportation Group's collective venture, was recently awarded the design-build contract for the Vancouver-Whistler Sea-to-Sky highway. S2S Transportation brought together a number of firms to develop a comprehensive proposal for this Olympic project. Trow's current scope of services is to provide geotechnical engineering services for the Sea-to-Sky project.

Northland Engineering joins Trow
